PORDENONE – Itaca Cooperative Social participates in M’illumino di Meno
Cooperativa Sociale Itaca will take part in the National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles with numerous events from February 16 to 21, in the 2025 edition of M’illumino di Meno, promoted by Caterpillar and Radio2. This event will focus on sustainable fashion, highlighting the reuse of clothes and the importance of educating new generations towards responsible consumption, also shedding light on the damage caused by fast fashion.
10 Itaca-managed services involved in M’illumino di Meno
M’illumino di Meno will see the participation of 10 services managed by Itaca, involving local communities, families, and beneficiaries in a range of activities from creating objects with recycled materials to intergenerational events, to promote reuse, sustainability, and environmental respect. The initiatives will take place in Paluzza, Cimolais, Cervignano del Friuli, Muggia, Ronchis, Porpetto, Castions di Strada, Sacile, Latisana, and San Giorgio di Nogaro. The cooperative has worked closely with local administrations and associations, such as Legambiente, to raise awareness in the community about the issues of ecological transition.
Special initiatives in Paluzza and Cimolais
Paluzza will host a special initiative, where the book “Il blec dal cûr” will be created, gathering testimonies from elderly residents about clothing items significant in their lives. Repairing and reusing clothes through the tradition of “patches” (or “blecs”) represent a perfect example of sustainable fashion, with a strong emotional and cultural bond. Participants’ stories will be collected on February 19 and 20, transcribed and bound on February 21, creating a precious and shared memory.
Intergenerational activities in Cimolais and Cervignano del Friuli
Cimolais will propose an intergenerational meeting with a candlelit dinner on February 16, where the elderly and young people will discuss the dark side of fast fashion. In collaboration with local schools, a documentary on the environmental and social risks associated with the industry will be shown to the students. Participants will be invited to wear a garment with a family story to share.
Cervignano del Friuli will organize the Creative Recycling Workshop on February 18, where residents, along with volunteers, will transform old clothes into new creations like necklaces and bracelets. The Casa Sarcinelli Grand Market, taking place on February 20, will showcase clothing selected by residents, who can exchange unused items, giving new life to the clothes.
Events in Muggia, San Giorgio di Nogaro, and Sacile
Muggia will be the stage for the Candlelit Musical Dinner on February 21, where participants will share stories related to their most significant clothing items. The event, without electronic devices, will be enriched with live music, creating a magical and welcoming atmosphere.
San Giorgio di Nogaro will offer an awareness opportunity to the younger generation with an environmental-themed Game of Goose on February 17, followed by a social gathering in the dark, involving 40 participants in interactive activities and educational games. Local businesses and the community are invited to turn off the lights for at least 30 minutes, symbolically joining the day.
Sacile will host the event “RI-cambio” on February 19, a swap market promoting the art of bartering and recycling. During the day, there will also be a candlelit dinner at the Protected Residence, with around thirty elderly participants experiencing it in an intimate and tradition-rich atmosphere.
Itaca’s participation in M’illumino di Meno confirms the cooperative’s commitment to promoting sustainability, not only environmentally but also as an educational value for future generations. This year’s activities fit into a framework of extensive community involvement, with events ranging from raising awareness to concrete practice, from creative reuse to reflection on responsible consumption choices.
