TAIPANA (UD) – Tragedy struck during what was supposed to be a group excursion in the Julian Prealps, turning a leisurely outing into a fatal accident: the victim is Rosanna Brussolo, a 70-year-old woman from San Giovanni di Casarsa. The incident occurred yesterday, April 9th, around 1pm, as the woman was descending from Punta di Montemaggiore at an altitude of 1,400 meters along trail 742. After passing a small saddle, Rosanna lost her balance and plunged into a north-facing ravine, falling approximately 50 meters. The group of hikers she was with immediately called 112 to alert emergency services.
Intervention of rescuers and recovery of the body
Immediately activated, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza, the Fire Brigade, and the Alpine Rescue of Udine responded to the scene of the accident. The medical personnel and the helicopter rescue technician were airlifted to the site thanks to the regional helicopter, which conducted initial flyovers. Despite their efforts, the woman was found lifeless. After confirming the death and receiving authorization from the magistrate, the recovery of the body was carried out with a second helicopter from the regional helicopter rescue service. The rescue operations were particularly challenging due to the difficult terrain conditions.
Ongoing investigations to clarify the causes of the incident
The reasons for the fall are still under investigation by the authorities, with the Guardia di Finanza collecting testimonies from the hikers. According to some witnesses, the woman first lost her snowshoes before slipping suddenly, but it is not ruled out that a health issue may have contributed to the loss of balance. Rosanna leaves behind two children and news of her death has deeply affected the communities of Casarsa and San Giovanni di Casarsa, where she was known as a kind and simple person. The mayor of Casarsa, Claudio Colussi, fondly remembered her, highlighting her availability and always positive attitude.
